Lets start with Bob. I remember how you loved that run down Chestnut mountain going to Galena. Well imagine 12 miles of 2 to 6 % grade. It is not straight down but the curves are fairly gentle and no switchbacks. And this was not the first day we did this although this was probably the longest. Maggie, thanks for the little note cards. something else to look forward secondary day. I did have trouble with the coyotes in st.Helen's trying to steal my bike but I told them about my ferocious friend Daisy and they backed off. Thank Daisy for me. Today we climbed out of Baker City and at the 10 mile mark started a 36 mile decent with what they call a popper of about 400 foot climb and drop in about 4 miles. At mile we loaded into the van for a 7.5 mile detour around construction on the interstate. That's right, we then rode on the interstate for a few miles and then got off and then back on for 2.5 miles again later. In some states it is legal to ride on the interstate when there are no secondary roads available. the pictures show the first field of corn we have seen out here. its surprising how big it is. also the snake river valley, it is brown everywhere that is not irrigated but the river valley is lush and green. One picture shows the van being loaded to shuttle round interstate construction. another photo shows a cattle guard to prevent cattle from roaming from their range via the road, since this is all open range. Today is our last day is OR, and we crossed into the Mountain time zone. Tomorrow Idaho.
