In many places in the quiet morning air, extensive sprinkler systems irrigated fields that were most commonly hay. Closer to Twin Falls we saw many large corn fields and wheat fields with sprinkler systems.

An engineering marvel of a bridge spans the huge Snake River gorge at Twin Falls. The bridge moves more than one might expect standing in its middle taking pictures. Never did I think I would ride my bike over bridges like this!Tom always takes the great pictures so I let him tell you about them. And of course we have an eye for different things. At the 60 mile mark today I noticed a farm with hay stacked everywhere. Not only bales but even huge piles of loose hay covered up with plastic sheets. The reason for this soon became evident. Cows, lots of cows. And this scene was repeated at farm after farm for about 15 miles. So if you are wondering how many cows, just count the cows in the picture at the right and multiply by 100 bazillion, I think that will get pretty close to the correct number. I don't think I was hallucinating, but it was a very hot, and long day with the thermometer on the bike reading 104 degrees once when I looked. I didn't look any more after that. Oh, did I forget to mention that headwind. Fortunately we came to that oasis called Subway at mile 87.4 and that was a lifesaver. I was really dragging when I pulled in, but after a couple of cold drinks and a few minutes in the AC we were ready to knock out the last 10 miles.
Also we had our first casualty today. Two riders were riding side by side and collided when they tried to give room to a car they were meeting. One of them has some sort of shoulder injury and will be going home tomorrow. The other just ended up with some road rash.
Stats today: Distance 97.08 elapsed riding time 8:16:40 Average speed 11.7 mph.
