Day 37 - Tuesday, July 28 - Ludington to Mt Pleasant, MI (761' elev.)

Long day!!! 113 miles!! The scenery here in Michigan is much different than on the Wisconsin side of the lake. The crops are different too, what crops there are. Here is a field of asparagus with a permanent deer stand at its edge. These stands were all over the place.

For scores of miles we rode through forest. The trees were generally scrubby, but there were lots of them. Many varieties of ferns covered the forest floors.

Orchards were more frequent here than any state since Oregon! Here an orchard borders another asparagus field. Packing plants for berries and cherries were often seen. At one spot piles of cherries had spilled from a truck.

The forests were most commonly deciduous, but here was a large stand of pines. Many lakes are in the forest and even more bogs like this one.

Several apparent hunting clubs had fenced in property. The fences were at least ten feet tall. It appears they have no lack of funding for these clubs.

It was a day filled with miles and learning about Michigan!

Kens two cents worth: Today we passed this truck parked along the road. The work crew was working with some trees in a patch of woods nearby. The trailer reminded me of one of our followers. I am sure you know who you are. Tom described the scenery today very well. A big change from Wisconsin, so many trees and the crops are puny. I can't see how the corn or beans can mature before frost. The wheat crop looks good here and we saw combines in the field in two different places.
This is the most mature field of corn I have seen. The silks have turned brown and there are quite a few ears. This field was in Minnesota.
